SPIRITUALITY AT HAMPSTEAD NORREYS
As part of a broad and balanced curriculum, we promote the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils (SMSC) at the school and of society. Spirituality at Hampstead Norreys links to our Christian vision: the parable of the mustard seed.
Finding inner peace, and cultivating the love of one’s self, links into our nurturing school environment, where we all trust, support and care for each other. without this nurture, our spirituality will not grow and flourish to its true potential.
Our definition of spirituality:
Spirituality is exploring the beyond. It is the connection we feel with something greater than ourselves. It is THE PEACE WE HAVE WITH OURSELVES, and the compassion we have for others and the world.
Spirituality in our school – what does it look like?

- Moments of stillness and peace
We experience spirituality through the philosophy of Windows, Mirrors and Doors.
The Window is how we see and value the world around us and appreciate its beauty. It is about giving time and opportunities to really observe things in greater detail.
The Mirror is the means by which we look at ourselves and reflect upon how we wish to behave. We think about ourselves and how we feel about the things we have observed.
The Door is the process that we find from Christian teachings which makes us want to make a difference to each other and the world. We promote the idea that we can care enough to make courageous changes for the better.
HAMPSTEAD NORREYS SPIRITUAL GARDEN!
At Hampstead Norreys we have been working closely with St.Mary’s Church and the parish council to create a community spiritual garden! The Little Oaks Committee went to visit the space and create designs on how they would like the garden to look.
The Little Oaks Committee have used money that we raised from our talent show to order decorations for the garden. We decided to write inspirational quotes on them, with the thought that some people from the community might want to come along if they are feeling down, and have a moment of stillness and calm.
A huge thank you goes to members of the Little Oaks Committee along with their parents, members of the parish council and ex-students helping to turn our vision into reality!
YEAR 6 SPIRITUALITY POEMS
On our Vision and Values Day, the year 6 children took part in a special spirituality afternoon where we watched the video ‘Noone Stands Nowhere’ and then created our own poems based on our reflections of the video.
